Andrew Forsyth is a Professor of Power Electronics at the University of Manchester, holding the Chair in Power Electronics co-sponsored by the Royal Academy of Engineering and Rolls-Royce. His research focuses on power electronics, energy storage systems, and their applications in aerospace and electric vehicles. He has held academic positions at the Universities of Bath and Birmingham prior to joining Manchester in 2004.
Educations: BSc(Eng) in Electrical Engineering from Imperial College London (1981), PhD in Power Electronics from the University of Cambridge (1987). Industrial experience with GEC Electrical Projects.
Research Interests:
- Power dense converters and wide band-gap device applications
- High-frequency magnetic components and thermal management
- Battery and supercapacitor energy storage systems
- Aerospace and electric vehicle systems
Key contributions include advancements in DC-DC converter efficiency models and sustainable energy-neutral UAV networks. He has organized major international conferences such as the IET International Conference on Power Electronics, Machines and Drives (2013-2014) and contributed to UN Sustainable Development Goals through energy storage research.
