معرفی
Dr Andrew Folkard is a Senior Lecturer at the Lancaster Environment Centre, Lancaster University, with expertise in eco-hydrodynamics and teaching development in quantitative methods for geography and environmental sciences. He has over 20 years of experience in fieldwork, laboratory experiments, and remote sensing to study hydrodynamic processes in lakes, rivers, coastal waters, and oceans.
His research focuses on hydrodynamics-ecology-biogeochemistry interactions, landscape patterning, fragmentation, and societal-ecosystem feedbacks. Recent publications include work on lake nutrient pathways, seagrass meadow fragmentation, offshore wind turbine scouring, and tropical vegetated channels. He actively supervises doctoral students and collaborates internationally.
Andrew was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship in 2006 for his contributions to pedagogy. He directs undergraduate geography programs, teaches core skills modules, and consults for the BSc/FdSC in Marine Biology and Coastal Zone Management at Blackpool and the Fylde College. His teaching innovations include the NUS-funded Edible Campus project with Green Lancaster and Small World Consulting.
- National Teaching Fellowship (2006)
His research integrates interdisciplinary approaches, examining the environmental impacts of offshore renewable energy installations and the role of heterogeneity in aquatic ecosystems. Collaborations span the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology, Dutch Institute for Sea Research (NIOZ), Universiti Putra Malaysia, and EPSRC Supergen Wind projects.
