Dr. Andrew Fagan is a Senior Lecturer at the Essex Law School, University of Essex, where he has taught human rights since 1998. He is affiliated with the Department of Philosophy, the School of Law, and the Human Rights Centre, serving as Co-Director of Postgraduate Studies (Human Rights).
- Education: BS.c. (Hons.) in Social Anthropology and Psychology (University of London), MA in Political Theory (University of Essex), Ph.D. in Political Philosophy (University of Essex)
His research focuses on critical perspectives on human rights, intersecting with cultural diversity, identity politics, gender, religion, and hate speech. He explores how radical philosophies and politics can defend human rights against contemporary challenges.
Key trends in his publications include critiques of liberal democracy, analyses of cultural relativism, and interdisciplinary approaches to human rights. His work spans Myanmar's political transitions, gender rights, and the ethical implications of autonomy in multicultural societies.
