Andrew Cripps

Andrew Cripps is a Visiting Professor in Sustainable Building Engineering. He holds a Physics degree from the University of Oxford and a PhD in Applied Mathematics from UCL. With 35 years of experience at the intersection of research and consultancy, he has held roles at BRE, Buro Happold, AECOM, Triple Point Investment Management, and now Vital Energi. His expertise spans domestic ventilation, radon modeling, and district heating systems, with leadership roles in sustainability teams and major projects like the Heat Networks Investment Project (HNIP) and Green Heat Network Fund (GHNF).

His research focuses on decarbonizing heat networks, energy systems innovation, and building engineering sustainability. He has supervised over 20 EngD students through university collaborations, including chairing the Programme Board for the Loughborough Centre for Innovative Construction Engineering.

Current initiatives include scaling heat networks via Vital Energi to decarbonize UK heating infrastructure. His work emphasizes technical leadership in low-carbon technology deployment and policy-aligned infrastructure projects.
