Andrew Conklin is an Associate Professor and Program Director of Music Composition at the University of the Pacific’s Conservatory of Music. He holds a PhD from Stony Brook University and has taught at West Chester University and Stony Brook University before joining Pacific in 2018. His work bridges classical composition, experimental pop, and multimedia art, with a focus on chromaticism, interdisciplinary collaboration, and historical influences.
Conklin’s research explores pitch organization in experimental pop and multimedia performance, as seen in his Music Theory Online article analyzing Tune-Yards’ chromatic clashes. He has been commissioned by festivals like Chutzpah! and collaborates with ensembles such as the International Contemporary Ensemble and Spektral Quartet. His projects include Site: Yizkor, a multimedia collaboration with Maya Ciarrocchi, and arrangements of Renaissance composer Vicente Lusitano’s works.
His accolades include a Grammy nomination for The Hazel and Alice Sessions and grants from the Trust for Mutual Understanding and Howard Gilman Foundation. Conklin’s creative output spans albums (e.g., Song Collector), performances at venues like the Bronx Museum, and pedagogical contributions to music theory and composition education.
