Professor Andrew Charlton-Perez OBE is a Professor of Meteorology and Head of the Department of Meteorology at the University of Reading. His research focuses on stratospheric dynamics, subseasonal forecasting, climate change impacts, and the application of AI in weather modeling. He has contributed to over 100 publications, with recent work emphasizing stratospheric predictability, decarbonization strategies for conference travel, and the integration of AI with traditional physics-based models.
His research explores the influence of stratospheric processes on tropospheric weather patterns, with a particular interest in sudden stratospheric warmings and their societal impacts, such as hospital admissions and energy demand. He leads international projects like SNAPSI, investigating stratospheric influences on subseasonal forecasts. Additionally, he advocates for climate education and sustainable practices, including reducing the carbon footprint of academic travel.
Professor Charlton-Perez has received recognition through awards like the OBE for services to meteorology. His work bridges academic research and practical applications, contributing to climate policy and operational forecasting systems.
