His research explores creative industries through Pierre Bourdieu’s relational sociology, focusing on negotiations between commercial imperatives and creative practice. Key areas include communication/media/creative industries, popular music studies, social class, educational experience, emotional geography, and local heritage projects.
Recent publications analyze mezzo-level community development, local heritage initiatives, British pop, fanzines, and punk subcultures. These works span sociology, cultural studies, and media theory, with specific attention to suburban youth dynamics, identity formation, and cultural policy.
CERG's public-facing impact involves collaborations with marginalized communities, funded research on social reproduction, and interdisciplinary projects bridging arts and policy. Teaching focuses on postgraduate media/communication industries, digital media, and creative practice.
