Dr. Andrew Bowkett is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Plymouth's School of Biological and Marine Sciences and leads conservation programs for Wild Planet Trust in Africa and Asia. He holds a BSc in Zoology from Cardiff University (2000) and a PhD in Genetic Patterns in Forest Antelope Populations from the University of Exeter (2012). His research focuses on molecular ecology, African forest mammals, ecological surveys, zoo reintroduction strategies, and conservation project management.
Current projects include Selamatkan Yaki (conserving Sulawesi macaques), the CHURA initiative for amphibians in Tanzania, and initiatives addressing forest elephants and amphibian diseases. He chairs BIAZA’s Field Programmes Committee and is an IUCN Antelope Specialist Group member. His work emphasizes transnational collaboration, fund management, and evidence-based conservation practices.
Publications span bushmeat trade impacts, conservation efficiency, amphibian disease diagnostics, and primate population monitoring.
