Dr. Andrew Boutton is an Associate Professor and MA Program Coordinator in the School of Politics, Security, and International Affairs at the University of Central Florida. His research focuses on international relations and comparative politics, particularly examining how political incentives of leaders in smaller states influence larger states' capacity to exert influence, and the domestic political consequences of cooperation with external powers. He holds a Ph.D. from Pennsylvania State University and previously served as a fellow at the Strauss Center for International Security and Law at the University of Texas.
Dr. Boutton's scholarly work spans topics such as foreign aid dynamics, terrorism, military alliances, and authoritarian regimes. His articles have been published in leading journals including the British Journal of Political Science, Conflict Management and Peace Science, and International Studies Quarterly. His research emphasizes the interplay between international relations and domestic political structures.
He advises graduate students, including Sandor Fabian, who won the Florida Political Science Association's Best Graduate Paper Award in 2018. His office hours are held online Thursdays 1:00-3:30 PM.
