Andrei Gusev is a Professor at the Department of Materials at ETH Zurich, Switzerland. He holds a Ph.D. from the Moscow Physical-Technical Institute (1987) and completed his Habilitation in 1998 on modeling of multiphase materials. His research focuses on multiscale methodologies for computational design of complex microstructure materials, with applications in heterogeneous materials' properties and industrial systems. He co-founded MatSim GmbH and the Complex Fluid Design Consortium (CFDC).
Research Interests:
- Development of computational tools for mechanical, thermal, and viscoelastic properties of materials
- Coarse-grained continuum-level approaches to mesoscopic materials modeling
- Applications in polymer networks, composites, and viscoelastic systems
Recent Research Trends:
- Advances in polymer network modeling, including entangled systems and viscoelastic properties
- Optimization of composite materials for stiffness and damping trade-offs
- Validation of theoretical frameworks like the Miller-Macosko theory through molecular simulations
