Dr. Andreea Seritan is a Professor of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) School of Medicine and a member of the UCSF Weill Institute for Neurosciences. She serves as Faculty Mentoring facilitator for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and co-leads the Clinical Neurosciences Area of Distinction for psychiatry residents. Dr. Seritan is also a member of the UCSF Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators.
Dr. Seritan completed her medical degree at Carol Davila Institute of Medicine and Pharmacy in 1992, followed by Psychiatry Residency at Baylor College of Medicine in 2003, and Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship at University of California, Los Angeles in 2004. She also completed Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Champion Training at UCSF in 2017.
Dr. Seritan is a geriatric psychiatrist whose research focuses on understanding and managing the psychiatric manifestations of neurodegenerative diseases. Her primary research interests include the psychiatric aspects of movement disorders such as Parkinson's disease and fragile X-associated tremor/ataxia syndrome (FXTAS). She has also made significant contributions to the fields of faculty development, gender equity in academia, medical student and physician wellness, competency-based medical education, and the mental health impacts of climate change. Her work bridges clinical practice with academic scholarship, addressing both traditional psychiatric concerns and emerging global challenges.
Dr. Seritan's extensive publication record demonstrates a progression from early work on fragile X spectrum disorders and neuropsychiatric manifestations to more recent focus on climate change and mental health, faculty development, and competency-based medical education. Her research shows a consistent commitment to improving psychiatric care for vulnerable populations while addressing systemic challenges in academic medicine and healthcare.

As an active mentor, Dr. Seritan oversees the department's career mentor program and organizes mentoring workshops for students, residents, fellows, and junior faculty. Before joining UCSF, she was on the faculty at UC Davis School of Medicine, where she developed and led the medical student wellness program and served as assistant, then associate dean for student wellness. Her leadership in wellness initiatives has been a consistent theme throughout her career, addressing both student and physician wellness in academic medicine settings.
Dr. Seritan has been instrumental in developing the Clinical Neurosciences Area of Distinction at UCSF and has been actively involved in the Climate Change and Mental Health Task Force within the Department of Psychiatry. Her work on climate change and mental health represents an emerging area of focus that connects environmental science with psychiatric practice, particularly as it affects vulnerable populations like older adults.
