Professor Andreas Wagner leads the Building Physics and Technical Design Department at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) Faculty of Architecture. His research focuses on sustainable, climate-friendly construction practices that balance energy efficiency with user comfort through interdisciplinary approaches combining building technology, renewable energy integration, and occupant behavior analysis.
- Develops integrated building energy systems with high renewable energy utilization
- Conducts occupant behavior studies at the LOBSTER indoor climate test facility
- Co-led the award-winning RoofKIT solar building project
Research Emphasis:
Investigates the critical interaction between building technology and occupant behavior through computer simulations and empirical studies. Focus areas include thermal/visual workplace comfort, real-time energy management systems, and statistical modeling of indoor climate parameters.
Labs & Collaborations:
Manages the LOBSTER laboratory for occupant behavior research and collaborates with KIT's Energy Lab 2.0 on grid-integrated solar building systems. RoofKIT serves as a living lab for CO2-neutral building operation.
Scientific Achievements:
Contributed to the Solar Decathlon Europe 2022 championship with innovative building energy management solutions. Develops advanced simulation models that incorporate physiological and behavioral data for optimizing building performance.
