Dr. Andreas Stengl leads the Stengl Group within the Department of Human Biology and BioImaging at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich (LMU). His research focuses on antibody engineering, drug delivery systems, and cancer biology, particularly targeting acute myeloid leukemia (AML) through antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs). He collaborates closely with the BioSysM program and the CALM initiative, leveraging advanced bioconjugation techniques for therapeutic and diagnostic applications.
His group develops innovative methods for site-specific protein conjugation, including reversible staining approaches for fluorescence microscopy and modular bioconjugation systems. Key areas include FLT3 receptor targeting in AML, SUMOylation mechanisms, and epigenetic regulation via HP1β and UHRF1 proteins. Stengl also pioneers tools like FLEXamers for peptide-MHC multimer analysis and TuPPL for protein ligation.
Current doctoral students include Mustafa Abdellatif, Jyotirmoy Rajurkar, and Marlene Rauschmayer. Technical staff and master’s students further support the group’s projects. Research spans from basic molecular mechanisms to translational drug development, with a focus on precision medicine and cancer therapeutics.
Notable achievements include advancements in ADC design, cysteine-selective bioconjugation, and high-content assay development for antibody efficacy evaluation. The group’s work bridges biochemistry, immunology, and oncology, contributing to cutting-edge biomedical solutions.
