Andreas Saxer

Andreas Saxer is a Lecturer at the Lucerne School of Design, Film and Art (HSLU), specializing in Product Design. He leads his own design studio in Zurich, focusing on furniture, lighting, and custom objects for industries and cultural institutions. He has taught at Chang Geng University in Taiwan (2009) and HSLU since 2010. Saxer co-initiated and co-curated the Design Biennale Zürich (2017) and serves on the board of the Swiss Design Association (SDA) since 2015.

• Training as a Dressmaker (1975-?), followed by Fashion Design studies at Zurich University of the Arts (HFG Zürich)
• Continued Industrial Design studies at Zurich University of the Arts (ZHdK), graduating in 2003

His research interests span experimental furniture design, material innovation, and design education methodologies. His work emphasizes craftsmanship and sustainability, evident in collaborations with firms like Studio Domo, Mox, and Bystronic. Saxer's publications explore both practical design innovations and academic program comparisons in design education.

He has received multiple awards including the IF Award Gold (2010) and GOODDESIGN Award (2010) for his furniture designs. His professional activities include curatorial work and leadership roles in design organizations, bridging academia and industry.
