Andreas Pries

Andreas Pries is a Research Fellow at the Chair of Egyptology under the Institute of Classical Studies, Faculty of Philosophy, University of Würzburg. His work focuses on Egyptian religious and cultural history, ritual dynamics, and textual transmission in ancient Egypt.

• Assistant in the Egyptology Department at Tübingen (2014–2022)

His research explores the interplay between ritual traditions and their adaptation across millennia, with a focus on textual criticism and the role of rituals in political and everyday contexts. Recent publications analyze hieroglyphic symbolism, funerary practices, and intertextuality in Egyptian texts.

Notable projects include the Horus Behedety-Projekt and editorial roles in the Ägyptologischen Tempeltagungen. His 15 most recent articles span topics like Demotic ritual texts, chronological dating of literature, and the evolution of temple practices.
