Andreas Nanz

Dr. Andreas Nanz is a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Digital Governance at the Technical University of Munich. He is currently working on the BIDT-funded project ToxicAInment, focusing on AI-driven analysis of toxic online content. Prior to his role at TUM, he worked at the Institute of Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Vienna (2018–2024).

His research centers on political communication and the impact of toxic online content on information processing. Key themes include incidental news exposure, user-centric content moderation, and the psychological consequences of social media incivility.

Recent publications analyze trends in digital journalism, such as cross-country political participation, news consumption patterns, and the distinction between perceived vs. actual political knowledge. These works emphasize methodologies like multilevel analysis and cognitive processing frameworks.
