Dr. Andreas Jungherr is an academic specializing in the impact of digital media on politics and society. He served as Junior Professor (Assistant Professor) for Social Science Data Collection and Analysis at the University of Konstanz (2016–2020). Previously, he was a Post-Doc at the University of Mannheim (2014–2016) and a PhD student at the University of Bamberg (2009–2014). His research focuses on digital media’s role in political processes, leveraging computational social science and digital methods while addressing methodological challenges. He currently leads the Volkswagen Stiftung-funded project Communicative Power in Hybrid Media Systems, examining political coverage across legacy and online media in Germany, the UK, USA, and South Korea.
Jungherr has authored books such as Analyzing Political Communication with Digital Trace Data (Springer, 2015) and The Internet in Election Campaigns (with Harald Schoen, Springer VS, 2013). He teaches courses on technological innovation, political communication, and digital trace data analysis at universities including Konstanz, Mannheim, Zurich, and Lucerne. He regularly presents at interdisciplinary conferences like APSA, CHI, and re:publica, bridging social sciences and computer science.
His work garners significant media attention, with features in The Atlantic, The Guardian, and Der Spiegel, among others. He contributes guest articles and interviews to outlets like Spiegel Online and Politik & Kommunikation, discussing digital tools in political campaigns and the societal implications of big data.
