Andreas Johansson is a Researcher at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies (CTR), Lund University. His work bridges History of Religions, Religious Symbolism, and South Asian Studies, with fieldwork in Sri Lanka and Japan. He examines how religious terms and symbols are used in political contexts, notably in non-fundamentalist parties like the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC). His 2017 book on Yakuza Tattoo demonstrates the value of visual anthropology in closed societies. Current projects include a SASNET-funded study (2022–2026) on religion and politics in Sri Lanka.
