Andreas Hagemann is an Associate Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. He holds a PhD from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (2012) and a Diplom from the University of Regensburg (2006). His research focuses on econometric methodology, causal inference, and applied microeconomics with particular expertise in quantile regression, cluster-robust inference, and treatment effects analysis.
His work addresses methodological challenges in small-sample settings, including cluster-randomized experiments and heterogeneous treatment effects. Notable contributions include developing permutation tests for clustered data and analyzing selection bias in organizational studies. He also explores applied questions like incentive structures in airline frequent-flyer programs and the causal impact of college education on mortality.
Recent articles highlight his methodological innovations in handling clustered data and his applications to business strategy and public policy. His research has been published in top journals such as the Review of Economic Studies, Journal of Econometrics, and Marketing Science. Hagemann is currently on sabbatical during the 2024/25 academic year.
