Andreas Eis is Professor for Didactics of Political Education at the University of Kassel's Faculty of Social Sciences since October 2015. His research focuses on critical political education, European political education, transformation processes in borderless democracies, diversity and participatory democracy education, and qualitative learning and teaching research.
His educational background includes studies in Social Studies/Philosophy at Friedrich Schiller University Jena, Institut d'Etudes Politiques in Rennes, and Michigan State University. He previously held positions as Junior Professor for Didactics of Political Education at Carl von Ossietzky University of Oldenburg (2011-2015) and Acting Professor for Didactics of Social Sciences at Goethe University Frankfurt (2009-2011).
His research interests center on critical political education theory, socio-ecological transformation, and the role of political education in contemporary crises. He examines how political education can foster democratic participation in borderless democracies and address challenges of socio-ecological transformation. His work emphasizes critical approaches to power structures, hegemony, and emancipatory practices in political education.
His publications reveal a strong focus on critical political education, European citizenship education, and socio-ecological transformation. Recent work explores educational regimes in transformation crises, political education for sustainable development, and the relationship between political education and social movements. He frequently examines how digital communication and transnational contexts shape political learning and democratic participation.

Professor Eis leads the doctoral program 'Just and Sustainable Transformation (JUST)' funded by the Hans Böckler Foundation, focusing on socio-ecological transformation through transformative education. He also directs the 'Global Perspectives in Elementary School' project addressing sustainable development goals in elementary education. His research collaborations include partnerships with the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation, Hans Böckler Foundation, and various educational networks focused on sustainability and political education.
He works with several research groups including the 'Educational Regimes: Transformation and Critique' group and collaborates with the Greenhouse for Tropical Crops at the University of Kassel on sustainability education projects. His current research examines how political education can respond to societal crises and contribute to sustainable democratic development.
