Andreas Avgerinos is an Assistant Professor of Pedagogy in Physical Education at the Department of Life Sciences, School of Sciences, European University of Cyprus (EUC). His academic career spans over three decades, including roles at the Ministry of Education in Greece, Democritus University of Thrace, and Aristotle University. He holds a PhD from Loughborough University (2003) and has authored/co-authored numerous publications focusing on physical activity promotion, educational technology integration, and sports policy.
Education background includes a BA in Physical Education from Aristotle University (1984), MSc from Loughborough University (1997), and a PhD from Loughborough (2003). His research emphasizes school-based interventions to improve physical activity levels, with notable contributions to cloud computing in education, harassment prevention in sports, and pandemic-era lifestyle studies.
Key projects include coordinating EU-funded initiatives like HALT (harassment prevention), GOAL (athlete development), and SUGAPAS (pandemic impact). He serves as Erasmus Coordinator at EUC and has led national curriculum reforms in Greece. Awards include a 2000 excellence award for work on physical activity interventions.
Research interests span technology-enhanced learning, child/adolescent health, and sports ethics. His 50+ publications address topics from serious gaming to BMI analysis in youth athletes. Current work focuses on sustainable policy implementation across five European countries to combat sports-related abuse.
