Andrea Čobić is an Assistant Professor and ECTS coordinator at the Department of Geology, Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb. She teaches mineralogy, gemology, and mineral deposits courses across undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs.
Education:
- Graduate Engineer in Geology (2008), Department of Geology, Faculty of Science and Technology, BiH, with thesis \"Comparison of crystallographic and mineralogical characteristics of allanite\".
- PhD in Geosciences (2015), Faculty of Science, University of Zagreb, with dissertation \"Characterization of metamict minerals with complex crystallochemical properties - example of allanite\".
Her research centers on metamict minerals, particularly allanite, exploring crystal chemistry, morphometry, and epitaxial growth of mineral species. She investigates hydrothermal, magmatic, and weathering-related mineral deposit systems including MVT, VMS, porphyry, and bauxite formations. Her work extends to gemological varieties such as brazilianite, tourmaline, calcite, and danburite.
Scientific Awards:
- Brdo award for best professor at the Department of Geology.
Čobić has mentored over 20 graduate and bachelor theses and conducts field courses for international students from UiT The Arctic University of Tromsø. Her research includes the Ministry of Education project \"Interaction of minerals and environment\" (2009-2014), Horizon 2020 projects REEBAUX (2018-2020) on rare earth element recovery, and RIS-RESTORE (2020-2022) on red mud tailings, plus bilateral projects with Macedonia and Slovenia.
She operates within the Division of Mineralogy and Petrography, with advanced training in HRTEM and SEM from the Czech Academy of Sciences and Jožef Stefan Institute. As a licensed gemologist and diamond appraiser from Gem-A, she actively participates in geology popularization initiatives.
