Andrea Trotta

Andrea Trotta is a Senior Researcher at the Institute of Biosciences and BioResources (IBBR) of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), based in Sesto Fiorentino, Florence. He has held this position since January 2023, following previous roles as a Researcher at the same institution from November 2019 to December 2022. Dr. Trotta maintains significant international collaborations, particularly with the University of Turku in Finland, where he has served as a Visiting Researcher since April 2021.

Dr. Trotta earned his PhD in Environmental Sciences from the Department of Environmental and Life Sciences (DiSAV) at the University of Eastern Piedmont in Alessandria, Italy, between November 2006 and February 2010. His doctoral research laid the foundation for his subsequent work in plant molecular biology and photosynthesis.

His research focuses on the molecular mechanisms underlying light perception and energy conversion in biomolecules across both model and non-model land plant species. Specifically, he investigates the regulation of expression and post-translational modification of the proteome in photosynthetic membranes and whole plant cells. His work spans plant molecular biology, photosynthesis, and chloroplast function, with particular emphasis on protein phosphorylation dynamics and thylakoid membrane organization.
