Andrea Torres is an Associate Professor at the School of Design, Pontifical Catholic University of Valparaíso (PUCV), Chile, and founder of Tipo Móvil, a design studio established in Santiago since 2014 specializing in letterpress printing and typographic design.
Her academic work bridges traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design practice, focusing on the rescue and reinvention of letterpress techniques using lead movable type and discarded materials. She has developed a distinctive approach that combines historical printing methods with modern design sensibilities, producing unique prints, fanzines, and limited-edition books on natural fiber paper.
Andrea completed her Graphic Design training at PUCV and earned a Master's degree in University Teaching in 2012, followed by a Diploma in Typography and Digital Fonts in 2022. Her notable creative projects include "The Solitude of Objects" collaboration with poet Amadeo Gonzáles and community initiatives like "Charlas Común," which raised funds for soup kitchens during the pandemic.
As an educator, she teaches Typographic Design (DIS 2313) with 4 vocational training credits, integrating her practical studio experience with theoretical knowledge. Her commitment to preserving ancient crafts and promoting diversity has established Tipo Móvil as a benchmark in artisanal typeface design within Chile's creative community.
