Andrea Timar is an Associate Professor at the Department of English Studies, Eötvös Loránd University, specializing in the intersections of literature, philosophy, and critical theory. She directs the Doctoral Programme in Modern English and American Literature and Culture and has held prestigious research positions at Central European University (2019/2020) and Brown University as a Fulbright researcher (Spring 2024).
- Academic Leadership: Director of the Ágota Kristof Research Group (2025–), former leader of the T.H.E. Doctoral Research Group (2015–2019).
- Research Themes: Focus on dehumanization (especially perpetrator representation), biopolitical discourses of immunity, Hannah Arendt’s literary-political philosophy, and addiction theories in Romanticism and modernity.
Selected Publications: Her monograph A Modern Coleridge: Cultivation, Addiction, Habits (Palgrave, 2015) won the HUSSE Book Award. She co-edits Helikon Literary and Cultural Studies Review and has published in Critical Horizons and Arendt Studies.
Grants & Fellowships: Recipient of Hungarian Academy of Sciences grants (2022, 2025) and ELTE Excellence in Publication Grant (2022). Currently writing Reading with Hannah Arendt: Literature, Criticism, Theory (Bloomsbury Academic, under contract).
Key Conferences: Invited lectures at Brown University (2024), Vassar College (2024), University of Aberdeen (2023), and Stockholm University (2024). Her work bridges 18th-century British literature to contemporary critical theory.
