Andrea Tilden is the Leslie Brainerd Arey Associate Professor of Biosciences in the Department of Biology at Colby College. Her expertise spans Genomics and Bioinformatics, Neurobiology, Animal physiology, and Endocrinology. She teaches courses such as Navigating the World of STEM Research (BI100), Human Physiology (BI275), and Applied Biomedical Genomics (BI371).
Her research focuses on comparative genomics and evolutionary biology, particularly analyzing eukaryotic genome structure, intron/exon evolution, and gene duplication mechanisms. She employs computational tools to study genomic trajectories and their implications for multicellularity and cellular differentiation.
Dr. Tilden’s lab investigates gene duplication outcomes, including subfunctionalization, neofunctionalization, and pseudogene formation through expression assays and predictive modeling. Contact: Runnals 104B | (207) 859-5743 | andrea.tilden@colby.edu
