Andrea Maier

Prof. Dr. Andrea Maier is a Full Professor at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Faculty of Behavioural and Movement Sciences, and holds additional roles in the AMS - Ageing & Vitality and APH - Aging & Later Life institutes. She specializes in geriatric rehabilitation, sarcopenia, and aging-related research. She completed her PhD on cellular senescence at Leiden University Medical Center and has extensive clinical training in geriatrics.

• Education: MD from Medical University of Lübeck, PhD in Cellular Senescence from Leiden University Medical Center.
• Research Focus: Aging mechanisms, sarcopenia, wearable technologies, and clinical interventions for older adults.

Her work contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to health and well-being. Key research topics include geriatric rehabilitation outcomes, biomarkers of aging, and lifestyle interventions to optimize healthspan. She has supervised 15 PhD theses and contributed to numerous high-impact studies. Prof. Maier also serves as an advisor to Rejuvenate Biomed and actively engages in public health initiatives and media commentary on aging-related topics.
