Andrea Lacava is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Northeastern University's Institute for the Wireless Internet of Things (WIoT). He holds dual Ph.D. degrees in Computer Engineering (Northeastern University) and Information and Communication Technology (Sapienza University of Rome), completed in 2025. His research focuses on 5G networks, Open RAN architectures, AI-driven control systems, and network security, with notable contributions to frameworks like ns-O-RAN and dApps. He has received prestigious awards including the IEEE Globecom 2024 Best Paper Award and the Laurel and Scroll Honor Society distinction.
Education includes a B.Sc. in Computer Engineering (Sapienza, 2018), M.Sc. in Cybersecurity (Sapienza, 2020), and dual Ph.D.s in Computer Engineering and ICT (2025). His work bridges theoretical research with practical applications, emphasizing real-time AI integration in telecommunications and network security.
Leadership roles include Technical Chair positions at RESTART Tech Camps (2024-2025) and organizing tutorials on Open RAN and Deep Reinforcement Learning. He actively contributes to open-source projects like ns-O-RAN and Colosseum, a wireless network emulator. His research themes span network digital twins, spectrum sharing, and IoT security, with publications in top-tier journals like IEEE Transactions on Mobile Computing and Journal of Computer Networks.
