Andrea Klinger serves as a Research Associate in the DFG Research Training Group 'The Sentimental in Literature, Culture and Politics' at Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg, where she is part of the first cohort of doctoral researchers exploring emotional dimensions in political and cultural contexts.
Her academic journey includes a binational bachelor's program in German-French Studies through the German-French University at Regensburg and Nice, followed by a Master's in Intercultural European Studies at Regensburg. Prior to her current role, she taught German at École normale supérieure de Lyon and worked as a research assistant at Trier University focusing on transnational European education.
Klinger's research centers on French political culture, analyzing how sentimental codes function in political discourse amid governmental crises and affective polarization. Her doctoral project investigates emotionally charged narratives of national identity and collective memory as mobilizing forces in contemporary French politics, bridging political science with discourse analysis. Her work contributes to understanding democratic erosion through rhetorical strategies employed by political actors.
As a member of the interdisciplinary DFG Research Training Group, she collaborates across humanities disciplines to examine sentimentality's role in shaping political landscapes. Her publications demonstrate expertise in intercultural education and discourse analysis, with particular attention to French-German perspectives on collective identities and stereotypes.
