Andrea Kitta is a Professor of Folklore in the Department of English at East Carolina University's College of Arts and Sciences. Her research examines medical folklore, pandemic narratives, and supernatural belief systems, with award-winning publications on contagion and cultural responses to health crises.
Research interests include vaccine hesitancy, disability narratives in folklore, internet-based legends (e.g., Slender Man), and cultural interpretations of contagion. Her work bridges ethnography, narrative analysis, and public health policy critique.
Publications focus on conspiracy theories in health contexts, religious responses to pandemics, and disability politics, utilizing interdisciplinary frameworks from folklore studies and medical humanities.
