Andrea Joseph is an Assistant Professor at Syracuse University affiliated with the BioInspired Institute. Her research focuses on leveraging nanotechnology to address maternal, fetal, and neonatal health challenges, particularly in understanding and mitigating inflammation during pregnancy. She investigates biological barriers like vaginal mucus and fetal circulation, targeting conditions such as preterm birth and preeclampsia.
Her research interests include drug delivery systems, nanomedicine, extracellular vesicles, and neuroinflammation. She emphasizes translational applications of biomaterials to improve women’s and children’s health outcomes, with a focus on pregnancy-related complications.
Dr. Joseph has received notable awards such as the Robin Chemers Neustein Postdoctoral Fellowship (2023–2024) and the President’s Plenary Award from the Society for Reproductive Investigation (2023). Her work bridges microbiology, immunology, and biomedical engineering to develop innovative therapeutic platforms.
Her lab, the Joseph Lab, actively recruits researchers to advance biomaterials and nanotechnology for maternal, fetal, and neonatal health. Current projects include nanotherapeutic strategies for neuroprotection and maternal inflammation modulation.
