Andrea D. Lobel is a Contract Instructor in the Department of Religion at Carleton University, affiliated with the College of the Humanities. She holds a Ph.D. in Religion from Concordia University (2015), along with a B.A. from York University and an M.A. from McGill University. Her research focuses on the intersection of religion and science, particularly in Jewish contexts, including the history of astronomy in religion, knowledge transmission between Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and the implications of space exploration on religious thought. She is also an award-winning writer and editor.
Dr. Lobel’s research interests include Second-Temple, Late Antique, and Medieval Judaism; the history of cosmology and mathematics in religious frameworks; and the relationship between religion, science, and magic. She explores how religious authority and hermeneutical practices shape interpretations of scientific and cosmic phenomena.
