Andrea Baldi

Dr. Andrea Baldi is an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Science, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, affiliated with the Photo Conversion Materials department and LaserLaB - Energy. His research focuses on light-matter interaction in nanomaterials for light-energy conversion and optical sensing, with contributions to sustainable energy technologies, plasmon-driven catalysis, and nanomaterials engineering. He holds a Physics PhD from VU Amsterdam (2010) and a Chemistry Master's from Sapienza University of Rome (2005).

Teaching includes courses on Sustainable Energy, Innovation Projects, and Materials for Energy Conversion. He has secured significant grants, including a VIDI grant (NWO, 2017) and FOM Program funding (2014), and chairs committees for STEM initiatives and education. His work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to clean energy and innovation.

Key research interests span nanoparticle design, plasmonics, photocatalysis, and biomarker detection via infrared spectroscopy. He collaborates internationally on projects like cavity-enhanced nanochemistry and plasmon-driven catalysis mechanisms.
