Andrea B. Hollingshead

Andrea B. Hollingshead is a Professor of Communication at the University of Southern California (USC) Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, with joint appointments at the USC Marshall School of Business and the USC Department of Psychology. Her research focuses on group communication processes, exploring how groups exchange expertise, manage knowledge, and maintain wellbeing in diverse settings—from workplaces to online platforms. Specialized areas include human-machine teaming, online incivility, and team dynamics under technological influences.

Educated at Yale University (BA in Psychology) and the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign (MA/PhD in Social Psychology), she has published extensively in top journals such as Communication Research and Organization Science. Her work has been funded by the National Science Foundation and U.S. Army Research Office. Hollingshead teaches courses on group communication, social science research, and mindful communication at all academic levels.

Notable awards include the International Communication Association Fellowship (2020) and the Dennis Gouran Research Award (2020).
