Andre Terzic

Andre Terzic, M.D., Ph.D., is a Professor of Medicine and Pharmacology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He holds leadership roles as Director of the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Medicine and Consultant in the Division of Heart Rhythm Services, Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, with a joint appointment in the Department of Molecular Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics. A pioneer in regenerative medicine, Dr. Terzic has led the development of next-generation regenerative solutions, including first-in-class products for heart repair, and has authored over 450 publications cited more than 10,000 times.

Dr. Terzic's research spans regenerative medicine, stem cell biology, cardioprotection, heart failure, cardiac genetics, bioenergetic signaling, nucleocytoplasmic communication, and ion channel biology. His work enables personalized risk detection and treatment by integrating genetic and metabolic profiling. He has advanced cardiovascular care through innovations in cardioplegia, drug selection for diabetes patients, and management strategies for heart failure and ischemic heart disease.

His recent publications highlight the integration of artificial intelligence in predictive regenerative medicine, cardiopoietic cell therapy for heart repair, maturation of iPSC-derived cardiomyocytes, and decoding of secretome biosignatures. These works reflect a strong trend toward translational and precision regenerative cardiology, leveraging stem cell models, molecular signaling, and computational approaches to develop curative therapies.

He chairs the Discovery-Translation Scientific Advisory Board at Mayo Clinic and has been instrumental in establishing regenerative medicine as a clinical and research pillar. He mentors a multidisciplinary team and collaborates extensively through the Mayo Clinic Center for Regenerative Biotherapeutics, the Van Cleve Cardiac Regenerative Medicine Program, and the Todd and Karen Wanek Family Program for HLHS.

His laboratory focuses on team science to discover genes for dilated cardiomyopathy and atrial fibrillation, and to develop regenerative solutions grounded in bioenergetic and signaling science.
