Andre Fludd is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Macaulay Honors College (CUNY), specializing in ethnomusicology with a focus on Indian classical music and diaspora studies. He holds a PhD from the CUNY Graduate Center, where his doctoral work examined the transnational development of Indian classical music in New York and New Jersey. Fludd teaches World Music and emphasizes cross-cultural understanding through music. His research bridges socio-cultural movements, including 1960s countercultures and the #MeToo movement, with musical practices.
Education: PhD in Ethnomusicology, CUNY Graduate Center.
Research Interests: Indian classical music diaspora, cultural identity formation, music’s role in socio-political contexts, and the intersection of traditional practices with modern movements. His work also explores the electric guitar in South Indian classical music, as detailed in his master’s thesis.
Publications: Contributed to the Routledge Handbook of Indian Transnationalism (2019) and a forthcoming piece in Analytical Approaches to World Music. His research highlights music as a lens for understanding global cultural dynamics and community development.
Teaching & Advocacy: Focuses on using music to foster cross-cultural dialogue, with courses on World Music and music appreciation.
