Andre Alfons Dhondt serves as a Professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at Cornell University's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), based at the Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity. His academic work integrates field research with undergraduate education across biological sciences.
Dr. Dhondt's research focuses on Ornithology and Tropical Ecology, with significant contributions to understanding avian biodiversity and evolutionary processes. His expertise spans avian population dynamics, tropical ecosystem conservation, and behavioral ecology, particularly evident in his course BIOEE 2640: Tropical Field Ornithology which combines classroom instruction with fieldwork in biodiverse regions.
He actively mentors undergraduate researchers through BIOG 4990 (Independent Undergraduate Research in Biology) and trains future educators via BIOEE 4980 (Teaching Experience). His laboratory operations are centered at the Johnson Center for Birds and Biodiversity, a dedicated facility supporting ornithological research and conservation initiatives at Cornell.
