Dr. Andra Leah Blomkalns is the Redlich Family Professor and Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine at Stanford University School of Medicine. She holds a dual appointment as a Professor in the University Medical Line. Her academic journey includes leadership roles at the University of Texas Southwestern (Division Chief of General Emergency Medicine, 2017-2018) and University of Cincinnati College of Medicine (Vice Chair of Education, 2003-2011). She earned an MBA in Innovation & Entrepreneurship from the University of Texas (2018) and completed her medical training at Louisiana State University (1997).
Dr. Blomkalns' research focuses on cardiovascular emergencies, innate immunity, and precision emergency medicine. She leads NIH-funded studies on post-COVID syndromes (RECOVER initiative) and has published over 40 peer-reviewed articles. Her awards include the Society for Academic Emergency Medicine Program Chair Recognition Award (2010) and Cincinnati Business Courier's Forty Under Forty (2006).
Administratively, she chairs Stanford's Emergency Medicine Department and previously served as SAEM President (2016-2017). Her clinical trials include studies on monoclonal antibodies for mild-to-moderate COVID-19. She collaborates with teams at Stanford Health Care and the Department of Biomedical Engineering to advance innovation in emergency care delivery.
