Anderson D. Smith

Anderson D. Smith is a Professor of Psychology and Regents Professor at Georgia Institute of Technology, serving as Vice Provost for Undergraduate Studies and Academic Affairs. He holds a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology from the University of Virginia (1970).

His research focuses on adult age differences in memory, contextual influences on episodic recall, and cognitive mechanisms underlying memory performance. He also investigates aging-related memory changes using non-human primate models. Key areas include how context modulates memory retrieval and the role of integration between contextual and target information in older adults.

Recent work explores cognitive control mechanisms in memory tasks and cross-species comparisons of aging effects in gorillas. His lab, the GT Memory Lab, conducts interdisciplinary research in cognitive aging and comparative psychology.
