Anders Schoubye is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Stockholm University. Previously, he served as a lecturer at the University of Edinburgh and held a Mellon postdoctoral fellowship at Carnegie Mellon University.
He earned his PhD in philosophy from the University of St Andrews in 2011 under the supervision of Herman Cappelen, Jonathan Schaffer, and Josh Dever. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting student at the University of Texas at Austin and UCLA.
Schoubye specializes in philosophy of language, formal semantics, and logic, with additional interests in formal epistemology, philosophy of mind, metaphysics, and applied ethics. His research focuses on the semantics and pragmatics of definite descriptions and proper names, future contingents, linguistic underdetermination, and question sensitivity. He is currently completing a monograph on proper names.
His publication record reveals a strong trajectory in the semantics of proper names, particularly through his development of variabilism theory. His work consistently bridges formal semantic theory with philosophical problems, addressing issues like Frege's puzzle while maintaining rigidity in reference.

- Project focuses on linguistic and epistemological perspectives on testimony, particularly scientific testimony about climate change
The project integrates research on the epistemological and linguistic foundations of testimony, examining how testimonial utterances function as knowledge sources and how they should be evaluated in public discourse, with particular attention to scientific testimony in societal contexts.
