Anders-Johan Almås

Anders-Johan Almås is an Associate Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering and Environmental Sciences at Western Norway University of Applied Sciences (HVL). With over 20 years of professional experience spanning management (CEO), project management, construction management, consultancy, engineering, research, and teaching, he brings extensive practical knowledge to his academic role.

His expertise focuses on the built environment with specialization in:

• Sustainability Transformation, refurbishment and new buildings

• Life cycle costs (LCC)
• Energy efficiency

His recent publications demonstrate a strong emphasis on climate adaptation in the Norwegian context, particularly examining energy efficiency in housing, sustainable development toward 2050, municipal planning for climate resilience, and climate-adaptive building definitions. These works combine engineering principles with sustainability goals to address pressing challenges in the construction sector.
