Anat Schwartz is an Assistant Professor of Women's Studies in the College of Arts & Humanities at California State University, Dominguez Hills. She is a feminist scholar whose work centers community-based research and transnational feminist activism, with particular expertise in South Korean anti-sexual violence movements and digital technologies.
Dr. Schwartz's research interests span feminist studies, gender studies, queer studies, Korean studies, digital activism, sexual violence prevention, and community-based research. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates archival research with contemporary feminist activism, focusing on how digital technologies shape feminist organizing and anti-feminist backlash across transnational contexts.
She is actively engaged in community partnerships, most notably as co-founder of California Queer History, which preserves and shares stories of queer activism across California through oral histories, archival research, and digital storytelling. Dr. Schwartz regularly facilitates community workshops and coordinates campus visits for youth organizations like the Compton G.IRLS Club.
Dr. Schwartz received her Ph.D. in East Asian Studies with a feminist emphasis from the University of California, Irvine in June 2022. She teaches Women's Studies 395: Gender Justice Organizing, where students lead workshops for community organizations on navigating microaggressions and succeeding in higher education as BIPOC/women of color.
Her scholarly work is grounded in feminist, anti-racist, and justice-centered values, with an explicit commitment to disavowing 'propaganda, racism, and all forms of hate.' She actively participates in the CSUDH Center for Community Engaged Teaching and Research (CETR) and has organized events such as zine-making workshops focused on pride and community history.
