Anand Venkatkrishnan is an Assistant Professor of the History of Religion in South Asia at the University of Chicago's Divinity School, also affiliated with the College. His work bridges Sanskrit intellectual traditions and lived religious practices in early modern India. He holds a PhD in South Asian Religions from Columbia University and previously served as Preceptor in Sanskrit at Harvard University's Department of South Asian Studies.

Research Focus: Explores intersections between bhakti devotion and scholastic philosophy, particularly through the Bhāgavata Purāṇa. Current projects include Love in the Time of Scholarship examining affective dimensions in Sanskrit scholarship, and Left-Hand Practice analyzing 20th-century religious intellectuals critical of bourgeois Hinduism. His work challenges conventional boundaries between intellectual and vernacular traditions.
Public Engagement: Maintains a blog (apurvaracana.tumblr.com) translating Sanskrit poetry and engaging with pop culture. Active in sports commentary and cultural critique.
