Anais Orsi

Anais Orsi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Earth, Ocean & Atmospheric Sciences at the University of British Columbia (UBC). She holds a PhD in Oceanography from Scripps Institution of Oceanography (UC San Diego) and prior roles as a Research Scientist and Marie Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Laboratoire des Sciences du Climat et de l'Environnement (France). Her research focuses on polar climate variability, combining ice core analysis, isotope geochemistry, and climate modeling to study processes like temperature reconstructions, firn densification, and Antarctic surface mass balance.

Her work addresses critical gaps in understanding polar climate by integrating multiple proxies (water isotopes, noble gases, borehole temperatures) and modeling. Key areas include:

• Developing temperature proxies in ice cores for millennial-scale climate reconstructions
• Investigating mechanisms driving Antarctic and Arctic climate changes (e.g., katabatic winds, synoptic activity)
• Improving ice core dating techniques using argon isotopes
• Studying feedback mechanisms like humidity-driven Arctic amplification

She leads collaborative projects like the Iso2k database and participates in PAGES initiatives, emphasizing global paleoclimate synthesis.

Advising & Grants

Orsi supervises graduate students in MSc/PhD programs and co-supervises international researchers. She actively seeks interdisciplinary collaborations, public scholarship opportunities, and experiential learning placements. Current projects include field campaigns in Adélie Land and Arctic humidity studies.
