Anabel Forte Deltell

Anabel Forte Deltell is a full Professor in the Department of Statistics and Operations Research at the Faculty of Mathematical Sciences, University of Valencia. She conducts research and teaching in Bayesian statistics and is actively involved in academic management and science outreach. She leads the Master's in Biostatistics and co-leads the Chair of the Digital Gender Divide, a collaboration between the University of Valencia and the Valencian Government.

Her educational background includes a degree in Mathematics (2005) and Statistical Sciences and Techniques (2006), both from the University of Valencia, followed by a PhD in 2011 with a thesis on Objective Bayes Criteria for Variable Selection, supervised by María Jesús Bayarri and Gonzalo García-Donato.

Anabel’s research focuses on Bayesian quantification of uncertainty in model selection and Bayesian hierarchical models for correlated data. She applies these methods in interdisciplinary collaborations in health, economics, biology, and plant breeding, particularly through a joint project with the University of Adelaide. Her work emphasizes objective Bayesian approaches and practical implementation in real-world problems.

The recent publications reflect a strong engagement with Bayesian methodology, statistical education, and public communication of science. Topics include Bayesian inference, R programming tutorials, epidemiological modeling (e.g., zombie apocalypse as metaphor), and critical discussions on AI and data ethics. These demonstrate a blend of technical depth and accessibility aimed at both academic and general audiences.

She promotes gender equity in technology via the Chair of the Digital Gender Divide.

She leads multiple research groups: the UIRFIDE Sport Performance and Physical Fitness Research Group and the VABAR Valencia Bayesian Research Group. These teams focus on applied Bayesian modeling in sports science and broader statistical methodology development, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and student training.
