Ana Munro is a Lecturer at North Hennepin Community College in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota, where she teaches Creative Writing, Nature and Literature, College Writing, Global Literary Perspectives, and courses on outdoor leadership. She co-founded the college’s Sustainability Committee and American Indian Education and Advisory Groups, and coordinates the Outdoor and Environmental Leadership Program, a nature-based immersion initiative in partnership with K-12 schools and environmental organizations.
- Education: BA in French from King’s College London, MA in Creative Writing from Bath Spa University, currently pursuing a Doctoral Degree in Higher Educational Leadership at St Cloud State University.
Her research focuses on the impact of place-based, immersive educational experiences on students’ academic success and identity, with a strong emphasis on environmental justice, sustainability, and BIPOC student advocacy. She has collaborated extensively with organizations like the National Parks Service, Wilderness Inquiry, and Save the Boundary Waters to create experiential learning opportunities.
Ana has received multiple awards, including the Minnesota Environmental Association Award for Outstanding Environmental Educator, the Wisconsin News Association Award for Journalism, and recognition as an Edina Home Town Hero. She has presented at major conferences such as AEE, AASHE, AWP, and ASLE on sustainability, diversity, and creative pedagogy.
Her professional background spans teaching Creative Writing at Bath Spa University, ESL instruction in New Zealand and France, and investigative journalism in the U.S. and U.K. She authored the poetry collection Above the Dance of Clouds (2014) and co-created the Dave Larsen Annual American Indian Civil Rights Immersion Experience.
