Ana Maria Bach Gómez

Ana Maria Bach Gómez is an Associate Professor in the Department of Prehistory at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and affiliated with the Grup de Recerca arqueològica a la Mediterrània i al Pròxim Orient (GRAMPO) research group. Her academic career spans over two decades with significant research contributions in prehistoric archaeology.

Dr. Bach Gómez earned dual PhD qualifications - in History from UAB and in History, Art and Archaeology from the University of Liège. She has held academic positions at UAB since 2006, including Associate Professor and postdoctoral researcher roles, with continuous engagement in research activities through 2025.

Her research focuses on Neolithic communities across multiple regions:

• Early and Late Neolithic periods in the Iberian Peninsula (84% of her research focus)
• Archaeological sites in Catalonia and the Barcelona region (100% focus)
• Mesopotamian societies and the Zagros region
• Settlement patterns and landscape archaeology
• Ceramic analysis and material culture studies

Her recent publications demonstrate a strong regional focus on the Iberian Peninsula (84%) while expanding into Near Eastern archaeology, employing advanced methodologies including landscape analysis, visibility studies, and ceramic analysis to understand early human societies.

Dr. Bach Gómez currently leads or participates in multiple active projects including "Gird Banahilk (Soran, Kurdistán Iraquí) y la consolidación de las comunidades agropastorales en el Zagros" which extends through 2025, demonstrating her ongoing research productivity.

She has supervised 46 documented research works, indicating her significant contribution to mentoring the next generation of archaeologists. Her collaborative network spans across Europe and the Near East, working with major research institutions in prehistoric archaeology.

Her laboratory work centers on archaeological analysis of Neolithic sites, with particular expertise in ceramic analysis and settlement pattern studies. She is actively involved in fieldwork across multiple regions including the Iberian Peninsula and the Near East.
