معرفی
Ana M. Soto is a renowned theoretical and experimental biologist serving as Professor at Tufts University School of Medicine in Boston. She is also a Foreign Corresponding Member at the Cavaillès Center, École Normale Supérieure (ENS) in Paris, where she previously held the prestigious Blaise Pascal International Chair (2013-2014). Her groundbreaking work spans cancer biology, endocrine disruption, and organismal theory, with pioneering contributions to understanding cancer as a developmental disorder.
Education: She earned her Medical Doctorate from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Research Interests: Her work focuses on cell proliferation control, morphogenesis, developmental origins of adult disease, and theoretical biology. Together with Carlos Sonnenschein, she proposed the Tissue Organization Field Theory of Carcinogenesis, revolutionizing cancer research by framing it as development gone awry.
Scientific Awards:
- Blaise Pascal International Chair (2013-2014) - ENS Paris
- Marla Frazin Award (1995) - Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition
- Gabbay Biotechnology & Medicine Award (2012) - Brandeis University
- Grand Vermeil Medal (2019) - City of Paris for pioneering endocrine disruptor research
- Elected Member - Collegium Ramazzini (since 2011)
Affiliations & Collaborations: She leads multidisciplinary initiatives at the intersection of biology, mathematics, and philosophy, including the Theory of Organisms project. Her collaboration with Giuseppe Longo explores foundational principles of biological organization, linking Darwinian evolution to organismic autonomy.
Societal Impact: Beyond academia, her work addresses critical environmental health issues, particularly the societal implications of endocrine disruptors and the urgent need for sustainable scientific practices in the Anthropocene era.
