Ana Lara Heyns is a Research Fellow in the Department of Fine Art at Monash University, where she conducts interdisciplinary research at the intersection of art, urban design, and environmental justice. Her work emphasizes Indigenous-led, community-centered approaches to reimagining urban water systems and subterranean spaces.
Her research interests include decolonial urbanism, sonic and augmented reality art, environmental art, and spatial justice. Through practice-based and collaborative methodologies, she explores how artistic interventions can reveal hidden urban infrastructures and foster deeper community connections to place and water.
The recent body of work demonstrates a consistent focus on urban water, embodied experience, and decolonization. Her publications span journals such as Geoforum and Cities, as well as design-focused outlets like Kerb, reflecting a transdisciplinary approach that bridges art, geography, and urban design.
Ana Lara Heyns actively contributes to public discourse through community events, public lectures, and artist residencies.
