Ana Lacerda serves as an Adjunct Assistant Professor in the Finance department at Nova School of Business and Economics, NOVA University Lisbon, while concurrently holding a pivotal role as Technical Consultant at Bank of Portugal and Advisor at the Governor’s cabinet, specializing in banking regulation and EU monetary policy.
Her academic foundation comprises a PhD in Economics/Finance (2006), partial Master’s studies in Statistics and Optimization (2002), and a Bachelor’s in Economics (1996), all from Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
Research centers on Banking Economics and EU financial governance, informed by practical policy experience. Her work bridges quantitative finance and institutional frameworks, particularly regarding Banking Union mechanisms and crisis resolution protocols within the Eurozone.
Publication trends reflect expertise in risk modeling and market regulation, as demonstrated by her 2010 Economics Letters article on statistical arbitrage under collateral constraints.
Government service defines her career trajectory: she previously served as Chief of Staff for the Secretary of State for Finance and Deputy Director-General for European Affairs at Portugal’s Ministry of Finance, where she spearheaded negotiations for the Banking Union at Eurogroup and Council of the EU levels. Earlier, she represented Portugal in EU financial regulation talks, shaping the single supervisory mechanism.
